Career progression at JG Pears

At JG Pears, employee progression is something that we are passionate about. It is important to us that we help our employees gain knowledge and skills to help further their careers and the business.

We recently interviewed our Import and Export Coordinator, Rafal, to talk about his progression at JG Pears and his experience working for the company.

Hi Rafal, please tell us about yourself and your progress so far at JGP.

“Hi, my name is Rafal Janowicz and I have been working for JG Pears for over five years now. My first role within the company was production planner for just over 2 years and now I'm JG Pears groups Import and Export Coordinator.”

What did you do in your job and what do you do now?

“I started at the weighbridge, checking trucks in and out and responsible for weighing the trucks and managing the raw materials. Then I was promoted to production planning, where I worked on the logistics managing where JGPs product was being sent to.

After this, I moved to import and export clerk for Newark site, sorting out movement documents for the Newark site and booking in lorry collections.

I was then promoted to Group Export and Import coordinator, where I then managed the whole company global shipping of our products. Our product is sent to places like Thailand, Vietnam, USA and many other global countries.

Please describe the opportunities that JGP has given you.

“The skills JGP has given me through my career development include negotiation skills, improved communication and I have developed my adaptability and resourcefulness.  These skills have helped me progress so far up the career ladder.

JG Pears love investing in their workers and I have had this first hand, as they offered me the opportunity to go to Italy for three days on for a conference.”

Please tell me about your experiences in Italy.

“The conference in Bologna, Italy was petfood convention where I met a lot of traders, suppliers and buyers who have a likeminded approach and passion as us at JG Pears.

I was selected to go as JG Pears felt I was confident and ready to talk about our brand with the enthusiasm. I learnt our brand is much bigger than just a few sites, our reputation exceeds us. Customers are very keen on our product but international trading and importing requirements limit the expansion of our brand.

I have developed the ability to effectively communicate with customers from new customers, existing customers and help in any way possible to provide the best customer experience JG Pears has to offer.

It was a fantastic trip and I learned so much and I had a really good time!”

What are the next steps for your career with JGP?

“I would like to see myself working in the sales department selling our product globally and supervising a team, supporting, and shaping them into the best version they can be at work and in their personal life.

To further my training, I would like to achieve a Level 5 Diploma in International Trade.”

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to apply to JGP?

“For anyone who would like to apply to JGP, I recommend it very much. The company has lots of benefits, such as the JGP Rewards benefit platform. This platform provides employees with various shop discounts, gym discounts and 24/7 support and guidance.

Moreover, the company is very keen on developing their employees and there are lots of training opportunities for you. If I had one piece of advice, every opportunity that comes your way, take it.

Good luck for anyone who applies!”
