JG Pears is committed to employee development and our team members completed over 150 training courses in 2021.
By supporting our employees to develop their knowledge and skills, they are in excellent positions to advance their careers with us. We’re pleased to report that we have 10 people in mid-level management or senior positions that started out in lower-level roles. It’s great to be able to promote internally as we have people steering the growth of the company who know it inside out.
We also have several people who have moved to shift or team supervisor roles, and we are actively supporting the upward progression of many more.
On the Job Opportunities
On-the-job training varies by role. We offer Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and HGV Mechanics qualifications, Supervisor and Manager certification and Human Resources (Level 3 & 5). Not only does a continuous programme of development allow our employees to thrive but it ensures that the business stays up to date with all relevant rules and regulations, health & safety and environmental laws.
We use the apprenticeship framework to hire new apprentices every year and to develop our existing workforce in areas like international trade and HR. Our Supervisor Level 3 and Departmental Management Level 5 qualifications are also awarded through on-the-job apprenticeship training. Our workforce is beautifully diverse and we also offer support to our international colleagues with English language lessons.
We currently have over 400 employees across eight sites working in more than 50 different roles with the business doubling in size over the last five years. We want everyone that works at JG Pears to have a rewarding, long-term career and all employees have personal development plans with regular appraisals. Our mentoring schemes support colleagues to achieve development goals while ensuring that knowledge is shared across the business.
